Join us for another program in our special exhibit speaker series! From the early 20th century and into the 2010s, a shameful pattern of sterilization abuse has persisted across the United States. In this talk, Dr. Natalie Lira, Assistant Professor of Latina/Latino Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will outline the role clinicians and public health officials have played in this history of reproductive injustice and how survivors of sterilization abuse have fought back. Be sure to visit the Museum of the Grand Prairie’s special exhibit “A History of Healing: Infectious Diseases and Community Responses to Defeat Them” to learn about some issues concerning public health in central Illinois’ history and much more.

This program is supported in part by Illinois Humanities.
