April is Autism Acceptance and Awareness month!

Autism Spectrum Disorder or ASD is a developmental disorder caused by differences in the brain. According to the Centers for Disease Control, ASD affects 1 in 100 children worldwide and 1 in 36 children in the United States.

ASD refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors and speech and nonverbal communication that may lead to learning and behavioral issues.

Autism awareness and acceptance month helps to educate people on the diversity of experiences and needs of individuals on the autism spectrum. Autism acceptance promotes understanding, inclusion and connectedness for people with autism.
