Today's TreeStumper is a native Illinois tree species. The dark purple, small, round fruit is eaten by robins and ring-necked pheasants. The simple, alternate leaves and warty bark are easy to ID. This pictured beauty is one of many at the Mabery Gelvin Botanical Gardens. What's your guess for this TreeStumper? Check out the plant signage along the garden paths when you visit.
