Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis)is a North American native plant that grows well in partially shaded areas like a woodland path.
The plant is named for the red juice that is contained in the roots and stems. Native Americans used the juice for dyes in clothing and baskets. Bloodroot's white flower will bloom in early spring even before its leaves completely unfurl. Be sure to look for this spring ephemeral at the Mabery Gelvin Botanical Gardens mid-March.
